Ipswich invited to help guide Multicultural Advisory Committee

Ipswich community members are encouraged to apply for External Advisor positions to council’s Multicultural Advisory Committee.

The Multicultural Advisory Committee was established in May 2025 as a platform for Ipswich City Council to engage with Ipswich communities to support council’s delivery of initiatives, projects and services.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said up to five External Advisors will be appointed after an Expressions of Interest period which is now open and closes on 23 August 2026.

“The Multicultural Advisory Committee is an avenue for Ipswich City Council to engage with our communities which are made up of people of 163 countries of origin, speaking over 152 different languages,” Mayor Harding said.

“The committee helps council consider the diversity of our residents in developing the many initiatives, projects and services we offer to our communities, and encourage further conversations with people of all backgrounds.

“I encourage anyone who is interested in helping council to support and engage Ipswich’s multicultural communities, by providing strategic advice for inclusive and culturally responsive decision-making, to apply for a role as External Advisor to our Multicultural Advisory Committee.

“Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate expertise or significant experience in areas such as multicultural community engagement, diversity and inclusion, social policy, economic development, research or related fields.”

Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine, who also serves as Chair of the Multicultural Advisory Committee, said the appointment of External Advisors is an exciting step forward for the committee and our community.

“The diversity of Ipswich’s population, with more than 22,000 residents able to speak a language other than English, is a major part of our City’s identity,” Cr Augustine said.

“As Chair of the Multicultural Advisory Committee, I want to continue to nurture and strengthen relationships between communities and residents with council – and I look forward to working with External Advisors to support these efforts.

“The Expressions of Interest period for External Advisors to the Multicultural Advisory Committee is a tremendous opportunity for community members who are passionate about helping to shape our vibrant city and to create a more inclusive city.”
