Ipswich artists are invited to showcase their work at one of the city’s most loved creative spaces, with expressions of interest (EOI) to open for the next year of Ipswich Community Gallery exhibitions.

Ipswich City Council Economic and Cultural Development Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle said consistent with previous years, at least 70 per cent of exhibitions from March 2027 to February 2028 will feature artists and arts groups with a connection to Ipswich.

“Located in our cultural heart d’Arcy Doyle Place, Ipswich Community Gallery is a vital part of the city’s creative landscape as an institution highlighting the incredible works of artists from Ipswich and beyond,” Cr Doyle said.

“Our city is bursting with emerging and established artistic talent which is the foundation of our increasingly vibrant arts sector – and we are continuing to put that talent in the spotlight.

“Artists and arts groups are invited to apply for 13 exhibition opportunities at Ipswich Community Gallery throughout the year to February 2028, with the EOI period open from 31 August until 2 October 2026.

“At least 70 per cent of exhibitions will feature works by artists or arts groups with a proven connection to Ipswich.

“This highlights council’s commitment to supporting local creatives, which continues from the current exhibition period where 12 of the 14 exhibiting artists or arts groups have a direct connection to Ipswich.

“Applications will be assessed against a selection criteria developed in consultation with the Ipswich Arts Advisory Group. This criteria includes artistic quality, innovation, relevance, feasibility and diversity.

“While applications are open to all artists, the selection panel will give preference to those who can demonstrate a meaningful connection between their work and the Ipswich community.”

Cr Doyle thanked Ipswich Arts Foundation for providing philanthropic support to waive gallery hire fees for artists chosen to exhibit their work.

Successful applicants will also be eligible for up to $2,000 exhibition support through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
