Ipswich’s day to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of its citizens is returning, with nominations open for the 2027 Ipswich Australia Day Awards.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said residents can nominate their fellow citizens for the awards in the following six categories until 1 November 2026:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Cultural Award
- Sport and Recreation Award
- Community Group of the Year
“The annual Ipswich Australia Day Awards are our opportunity to recognise those among us who go above and beyond to make our city great,” Mayor Harding said.
“The awards are an occasion when pride swells in our communities as we honour the local heroes who dedicate their lives to others or inspire us through their achievements.
“Whether it be in community services, arts and cultural activities, sport, education, business, the environment and many other areas, our city is blessed with many people selflessly striving to ensure Ipswich is vibrant, connected, safe, welcoming and community focused.
“I encourage residents to put forward these remarkable people in the community for recognition at the 2027 Ipswich Australia Day Awards.”
Mayor Harding said award finalists will be announced in December, with winners revealed at a ceremony on Wednesday, 20 January 2027.
“It was amazing to celebrate the achievements of inspirational Queensland rugby league icon Ali Briggingshaw when she was named Ipswich Citizen of the Year this year,” Mayor Harding said.
“I was also delighted to recognise Elizabeth Gough as Senior Citizen of the Year, Harrison Rule as Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year Springfield Mo-Men and Sport and Recreation Award winner CJ Mulvogue, while also posthumously recognising Aunty Vera Short as the Cultural Award recipient.
“Every year, we receive a very strong pool of nominations for the Ipswich Australia Day Awards – and I have no doubt sure this year will be no different.”
