Home Assist is a government funded program providing home maintenance and modification support to eligible people within Ipswich City Council and the Scenic Rim, Somerset and Lockyer Valley regional council areas. This support enables eligible people to remain in the home of their choice in a safe, healthy and secure environment.
What does Home Assist provide?
Home Assist aims to remove some of the practical housing related difficulties experienced by older people and people living with a disability. Subsidised assistance towards labour costs is available to eligible people for minor home maintenance and home modifications relating to health, safety and security.
Services provided may include:
Changing light bulbs
Installing smoke alarms and replacing batteries
Basic electrical services (lights and power points)
Basic plumbing services (tap washers, leaks and blocked drains)
Basic locksmith and glazing services
Basic carpentry services
Repairs and replacement of hot water systems
Grab rails, handrails, hand-held showers, chair and bed raisers and small ramps
Major home modifications (ie. modifying bathrooms for disability access).
Staff can also assist with providing free information and advice regarding home maintenance, security and falls prevention or provide referrals to appropriately qualified tradespeople to undertake private work.
Provision of any service is subject to client eligibility, program guidelines and available funding.
Non-essential work such as home improvements or beautification cannot be subsidised through Home Assist.
Are you eligible for Home Assist?
To be eligible for subsidised assistance you must:
Reside in a private home or rental property within the service area
Be aged 60 or older, or any age with a disability
Hold a current Pensioner Concession Card and
Be unable to make use of alternative forms of assistance
If not receiving a pension, be aged 65 or older and approved for support through My Aged Care.
