Sustainable Ipswich puts the future in focus

Published on 01 October 2026

From everyday actions through to big ideas – it’s all part of the 2026 Sustainable Ipswich program of events and activities.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said Sustainable Ipswich was once again brimming with inspiration for a cleaner, greener future for Ipswich.

“It takes us all working together to create a more liveable city today and for future generations,” Mayor Harding said.

“Sustainable Ipswich offers so many opportunities to share and learn as individuals, as well as be part of collective efforts across our community.

“The program is packed with practical and informative workshops to upskill your eco-friendly lifestyle, with sessions on everything from homemade skincare to book repair.

“The popular Sustainable Open Garden Trail is also returning with inspirational wildlife-friendly gardens across the city.

“Sustainable Ipswich also helps to connect us as a community, by highlighting local initiatives and champions making a difference.

“A feature for 2026 will be the inaugural Eco Fest, hosted by the Ipswich Climate Action Group, as well as other community-led events.”

Mayor Harding said this year Sustainable Ipswich included the opportunity for community input to the development of council’s new Sustainability Strategy, as well as council’s future community education and programming.

“The Sustainability Strategy will set a direction for the next five years, with tangible actions for council to reduce its emissions as an organisation and increase climate resilience in its operations, as well as the priorities for council’s continued advocacy towards positive outcomes for our community,” Mayor Harding said.

“The community engagement is an important way to share what sustainability means to you, and what is important to you – both at home and for our whole community.”
