Council to mark 25 years of Enviroplan with new facilities at Hardings Paddock

06 August 2021

Council will celebrate 25 years of Enviroplan on 28 August, with the opening of the new Hardings Hub at the Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate.

Tickets are now available for the EnviroForum event, which follows council’s decision to allocate almost $1.3 million to rehabilitation and improvement works at its conservation estates in the 2021-22 budget.

Mayor Teresa Harding said it will be fantastic to celebrate the occasion at one of Ipswich’s most pristine natural spaces.

“Ipswich is one of Queensland’s most liveable cities, thanks to our vibrant restaurant and dining scene, strong community spirit and many parks, green reserves and conservation estates,” Mayor Harding said.

“EnviroForum is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the passionate and dedicated volunteers who keep our city beautiful and sustainable, and welcome the public to our new facilities.

“I look forward to seeing residents enjoy the new environmental education centre, Kup-Murri cooking site and upgraded trailhead in the years ahead.”

Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Russell Milligan said by committing to Enviroplan, council and the community had taken positive action on a number of environmental fronts.

“Through Ipswich Enviroplan we have been able to achieve significant improvements that have helped to create an environment that we and future generations can be proud of,” Cr Milligan said.

“Ipswich Enviroplan has enabled council to purchase and manage more than 6,700 hectares of conservation estate and reserves and conservation actions on thousands of hectares of private land.

“We have 25 years of success to celebrate – but also look forward to many more years of continued improvement for our natural environment.”

A number of expert guest speakers will discuss conservation and sustainable management of natural resources at EnviroForum, with special activities on native plants, animals and indigenous culture.
