Queensland Governor offers support in Ipswich

The Ipswich community received a boost today when the Governor of Queensland Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM visited residents at Goodna, the Local Recovery and Resilience Group headquarters and the flood evacuation centre.
Ipswich’s Local Disaster Management Group Chairperson Mayor Teresa Harding welcomed Her Excellency on her second tour of Ipswich since she was sworn in last November.
“We invited Her Excellency to visit Ipswich to witness the resilience of our community and to offer support to those who are going through a heart-breaking flooding disaster,” Mayor Harding said.
“Her Excellency met with Deputy Mayor Councillor Nicole Jonic and Councillor Paul Tully in Goodna where there are still flood waters covering the streets.
“The Governor then came to council’s Local Recovery and Resilience Group headquarters where she was briefed on the current situation, before heading to the Ipswich Showgrounds evacuation centre where she met with volunteers and staff running the centre and flood impacted residents.”
Local Resilience and Recovery Group Chair Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said people really appreciate that the Governor has visited to show her concern.
“Council, Emergency Services and Volunteers are working really hard to help those who need it most, so it is appreciated that Her Excellency took the time to come and support our community,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
