Hot Wheels stunts, turbochargers and heaps more at Ipswich’s Planes, Trains and Autos

Petrolheads, motorsport fans and car lovers will be spoilt for choice with classic, muscle and drag cars, electric and luxury vehicles, remarkable motorbikes, defence and emergency services vehicles all on display at The Workshops Rail Museum for Planes, Trains and Autos on Saturday 30 April 2022.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the festival will be a great family day out celebrating all things aviation, rail and autos, including thrilling performances by The Hot Wheels stunt team, Stuntz Inc.

“Whether you are a fan of powerful engines, road machines that run on renewable energy or on two wheels, or vehicles that defy gravity, this festival ‘wheely’ has something for everyone,” Mayor Harding said.

“There will also be plenty of adrenaline-charged action with Stuntz Inc performing two jaw-dropping motorbike stunt shows followed by an onstage ‘Q&A’ with their professional stunt crew lead by actions sports athlete Matt Mingay.

“The Hot Wheels fun zone will also have Hot Wheels play tables, a colouring station and the opportunity to get up close to a mini Super Truck.

“Automotive enthusiasts can expect a terrific line-up of vehicles from the Classic and Muscle Car Club of Ipswich, Australian Electric Vehicle Association, BMW Club of Queensland and Historical Motorcycle Club of Queensland.

“With family ticket packages available, as well as a very special visit from everyone’s beloved Transformers, Autobots Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, it really is an unmissable day out for the whole family.”

More than 6,000 people attended the inaugural festival, and the 10,000 available tickets for the 2022 event are selling quickly.

Economic and Industry Development Committee Chairperson Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic said the 2022 event has an exciting line-up of military displays, interactive family-friendly activities and a huge variety of awe-inspiring machinery.

“The Workshops Rail Museum will be chock-a-block with passionate exhibitors sharing their love of all things rail, aviation and autos, while timeless aircraft take to the skies overhead for exhilarating formation flying and incredible manoeuvres,” Cr Jonic said.

“Money raised from festival ticket sales will be distributed to Legacy Club of Ipswich and Queensland Museum Foundation,” Cr Jonic said.

There will be more auto action at the popular Queensland Auto Spectacular at Willowbank Raceway will take place on the day following, Sunday 1 May 2022.

Cr Jonic said the Spectacular will include a huge swap meet, car displays, the Australian Rocker Cover Racing Championships and quarter-mile test, tune drags and plenty more.

“Car and bike enthusiasts will be in their element at the Queensland Auto Spectacular with more than 500 hot-rods and tuned vehicles on display, as well as Shannons’ unique racing green 1959 Goggomobil Dart,” Cr Jonic said.
