SPARK Ipswich festival event - Little Day Out - has won a national community award and the hearts of Ipswich’s under 10’s.

Economic and Industry Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Nicole Jonic said Little Day Out won the community category for small shopping centres at the Shopping Centre Council of Australia (SCCA) Awards.

“We are a young and vibrant city. Home to families and young people, with five to nine-year-olds making up the largest sector of our population,” Cr Jonic said.

“With a median age of 34, our residents are younger than both the state and national population averages.

“Ripley is one of our regions fastest growing suburbs and Ripley Town Centre worked with council to present the Little Day Out.

“Little Day Out is held at Ripley Town Centre during council’s SPARK Ipswich 11-day festival held in July.

“Together we successfully delivered two sold-out sessions, with 3,000 people attending Ipswich’s signature children’s contemporary music and arts festival.

“Regurgitator’s POGOGO show headlined on the main stage with their musical mash-up of funk, pop and rock and they were supported by feisty trio Babushka.

“The young and young at heart took part in boomerang painting, tiny tots zone, nature play and a silent disco were some of the activities that were part of the Little Day Out experience.

“I want to thank Ripley Town Centre for joining with us to present this award-winning event to the community.”

SPARK Ipswich was supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
