Milestones continue for Ipswich’s largest road project

19 December 2022

Opening of new lanes and important night works are planned for early in the new year as the city’s largest road upgrade project approaches several key construction milestones.

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Mayor Teresa Harding said scheduled works on the upgrades to Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial were progressing well.

“Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial are being expanded from two to four lanes to best support efficient transport for Springfield and the city’s eastern corridor’s growing population,” Mayor Harding said.

“Upcoming Stage 3 works on Springfield Greenbank Arterial Road between Sinnathamby Boulevard towards Eden Station Drive include kerb and channel installation in preparation for a spray seal prior to the laying of new asphalt.

“Works were prioritised next to Brighton Homes Arena to minimise impacts during the recent hosting of the AFLW Grand Final, the sold-out debut game for the stadium.

“Good progress continues to be made on Stage 1 works including subgrade replacement and preparation, stormwater drainage, asphalt works, footpaths and installation of street lighting in preparation for a traffic switch early in the year.”

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson and Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said night works will occur in early January 2023 on the Centenary Highway off-ramp to widen lanes.

“Important night works are planned over two nights from 8 to 9 January 2023 for the safety of motorists and to avoid disruption to the road network,” Cr Tully said.

“Once installed, the off ramp will be reduced to one lane for about eight months as vegetation clearing and excavation work are undertaken as day works.”

Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the project area will shut down for the festive period on 22 December with work to recommence on 3 January 2023.

“As we reach the end of the year, the project team is preparing the area to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists is maintained over the festive season,” Cr Jonic said.

“We appreciate your patience and support as we build essential road infrastructure to cater for future growth in the area.”

The Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial Road Upgrade is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) and Ipswich City Council.
