Partnership delivers solid foundations for Ipswich business owners

Ipswich small business owners and entrepreneurs are set to get a boost through a partnership between Ipswich City Council and TAFE Queensland.

Economic and Industry Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Nicole Jonic said through the partnership council will fund 20 Ipswich businesses to complete a Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and Small Business.

“Eligible business owners can apply for a fully subsidised TAFE Queensland course valued at $2590 per participant,” Cr Jonic said.

“We would love to see Expressions of Interest lodged by 17 June from a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare and social assistance, retail and construction.”

Cr Jonic said council entered the partnership with TAFE Queensland after hearing from local businesses and the Chambers of Commerce on what would be useful for new operators in the City.

“By funding this Certificate for business owners we can support them to take charge of their future and develop those core skills that will underpin success,” Cr Jonic said.

“Council recognises that TAFE Queensland, as an established and respected education provider, is best placed to provide these skills through the Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and Small Business.”

“Supporting business owners, especially in growth industries, is also great news for the local economy.

“It’s not just for new businesses, but also for established business owners who are now keen to take their operations to the next level.”

TAFE Queensland Acting General Manager (South West Region) Jenni Butler said the 16-week practical course provided new business owners with crucial foundation knowledge to grow their business in Ipswich.

“The structured content of this qualification includes everything from product research to strategy, finance management to marketing,” Ms Butler said.

“We are excited to partner with Ipswich City Council to enable more local small businesses and entrepreneurs to gain this important qualification.”
