Call for exhibitions for Ipswich Community Gallery

26 October 2023

The Ipswich Community Gallery, located at the Ipswich Art Gallery, is inviting exhibition applications for 2024 from emerging and established visual artists and curators.

Applications are open now and close 30 November 2023.

Ipswich City Council Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said artists with both group and solo exhibitions that embrace contemporary practice and nurture meaningful connections with audiences are encouraged to apply.

“The community gallery is open to everyone and now 10 lucky artists/groups will have the opportunity to display their work through the 2024 program,” Cr Fechner said.

“As a forward-thinking regional gallery celebrated for its high-calibre exhibitions, collections and programs, the opportunity to exhibit in the community gallery is a prestigious one.

“Applications will be assessed by a gallery program panel based on five key criteria of clarity, innovation, quality, curatorial and diversity with local applications given preference during judging.

“It’s important for local emerging and established artists to have the opportunity to exhibit their work and I am proud of the work this council is doing to promote and build capacity in the arts in Ipswich.”

An ARTiculate workshop has been organised for 11 November called Portfolio Presentation to specifically support visual artists applying to exhibit in galleries.

During the session, time will also be allocated for any one-on-one assistance required with their community gallery application.
