Council secures funding for safer roads in Ipswich

Ipswich City Council has secured $851,500 in Australian Government funding for three projects under the Black Spot Program.
Governance and Transparency Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said by providing funding for road locations where crashes are occurring, the program reduces the risk of crashes, making safer roads for Ipswich.
“This funding will allow council to improve safety at three locations in Ipswich,” Cr Madsen said.
“Council continues to deliver on its objective of improving Ipswich through securing much-needed funding for the benefit of the community. Safer roads mean a safer community.”
The three Ipswich locations to be improved are:
- Old Logan Road and Formation Street, Carole Park: $65,500 for the installation of an advanced warning static sign and an advanced warning flashing sign. Removal of right-turn.
- Robertson Road and Whitehill Road, Eastern Heights: $694,000 for upgrade of intersection with a left-in, left-out treatment for Whitehill Road by installing a central median in Robertson Road through the intersection to prevent right-turns.
- Gordon Street and South Street, Ipswich: $92,000 to upgrade phasing to include pedestrian protection, update cable run to align with clearance times and install mast arms and signals.
Works are expected to start in the 2023-2024 financial year.
