Lights, camera, action! Ipswich Film Festival for Youth is back in 2023

It is no secret that Ipswich is home to unrivalled youth talent, and council is now calling for young filmmakers to showcase their skills and creative flair as part of the Ipswich Film Festival for Youth.
Budding Steven Spielbergs and Greta Gerwigs aged seven to 25 years old are invited to submit their short films ahead of the closing date on Friday 15 September.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said he was excited to see what was in store from this year’s entrants.
“The Ipswich Film Festival for Youth has been running for nine years and our city’s young and emerging talent continues to impress,” Cr Fechner said.
“There’s no doubt we have the talent in Ipswich to be the next viral sensation or future Oscar winner.
“Whether you’re a first-time video maker or a seasoned filmmaker, I encourage all interested young residents to get involved.”
Entries must be no longer than five minutes (or 300 seconds) long, and will be judged on the storyline, editing techniques, use of effects, and the inclusion of the festival camera logo, allowing plenty of room for entrants’ creativity and imagination.
“From best music video to best comedy, computer animation or documentary, the film festival has a category to suit every young person’s unique style, vision and interests,” Cr Fechner said.
“More than $3,000 in prizes is up for grabs to help advance your filmmaking, and entries will be showcased in style at the screening and award ceremony held on Saturday 14 October in Tulmur Place in the Nicholas Street Precinct.
“I’m sure this will be another tough year for festival judges and I look forward to seeing the community out in force to support our young talent at the screening.”
