Matildas fans will be able to watch the FIFA Women’s World Cup Semi-Final between Australia and England live in the heart of the city at Tulmur Place this Wednesday.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the Matildas’ fierce determination to bring Australia through to the semi-finals was deserving of celebration.

“It’s been such an incredible tournament for Australia, and we are so excited to be able to bring everyone in Ipswich together in Tulmur Place to cheer them on in their first-ever semi-final against England on Wednesday,” Mayor Harding said.

“Ipswich has a proud history of supporting our sporting legends and council is delighted that our city’s stars of tomorrow can now watch this major semi-final right in the heart of the city.

“Council will livestream the game in Tulmur Place – a family-friendly location – with kick-off at 8pm.

“Council’s administration building at 1 Nicholas Street will also be lit green and gold on Wednesday night.”

Soccer fans keen to join in the celebrations are invited to bring a picnic chair or rug to Tulmur Place on Wednesday night, grab dinner at one of the Nicholas Street Precinct’s eateries and enjoy the action on-screen.

Mayor Harding said having the FIFA Women’s World Cup in south-east Queensland was an unrivalled opportunity to enjoy world-class sport live and local.

“After the nerve-wracking moments of the Matildas’ shootout with France on the weekend, we can now gather in Tulmur Place to cheer on Sam Kerr, Mackenzie Arnold, Cortnee Vine and their team-mates against England,” Mayor Harding said.

“The Nicholas Street Precinct eateries including Sushi HYO, Zambreros, Gelatissimo and That Dumpling Place will all open late for dinner on Wednesday night.

“Visitors can park for up to three hours for free under the Nicholas Street Precinct, accessible via Bremer Street, with free entry after 5pm.”

Kick-off is at 8pm, allowing visitors plenty of time to enjoy a meal before the game begins.
