Nicholas Street Precinct to transform into dog lovers’ playground for a day

Mark your calendars, grab your doggo and get ready to make a day of it.
This year Ipswich City Council expects strong visitation from across the region to the Nicholas Street Precinct to celebrate our four-legged friends for Dog Day 2023 on Saturday 6 May.
The 2022 Dogfest was a major success and council is proud to bring back the second iteration called ‘Dog Day’ to Ipswich’s new events precinct, right in the heart of the city.
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson and Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said the event is fast becoming part of the Ipswich calendar.
“The Nicholas Street Precinct is the perfect location for these types of large and joyous events that bring the community together and provide fantastic opportunities for local businesses,” Cr Doyle said.
“Council is delighted to deliver unique experiences like Dog Day for the people of Ipswich and beyond.
“We’re confident that Dog Day 2023 will be a roaring success and perhaps more popular than a loose tennis ball in a border collies’ backyard.”
This year there will be three sponsored main competitions for pooch lovers to enter their furry friends in:
- The Hairiest Dog Competition, sponsored by Picture Perfect Pets
- Dress Up as your Dog, sponsored by TopDog Plasma
- Best Junior Dog Handler Competition, sponsored by Pet Mince Direct.
Division 3 Councillor Andrew Fechner said Dog Day 2023 is an opportunity for the community to share and celebrate their love of dogs.
“For so many of us, dogs are more than pets, they’re family and vital to our happiness and wellbeing,” Cr Fechner said.
“Dog Day 2023 will be a celebration of these beloved family members – from Afghan Hounds to Yorkies and every Coco, Milo and Luna in between.
“With more than 70 dog and pet-related stallholders taking part in Dog Day with an array of human food trucks, workshops, demonstrations, and live music there will be something for every dog lover in the Nicholas Street Precinct.”
Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin from radio station Triple M will emcee and look after official proceedings for the day.
There are 1,000 parking spaces located underneath Tulmur Place, entry via Bremer Street, with free parking on weekends and ample walking access to and from the train station for visitors.
Dog Day 2023 is on Saturday 6 May from 10am to 2pm in Tulmur Place at the Nicholas Street Precinct.
