Ipswich City Council to drive growth with Ripley Road upgrade

12 February 2024

Following resolutions by the Ipswich City Council in 2022 and 2023, council is advancing the design and construction upgrades of two vital connecting roads within the Ripley Valley in a staged approach.

Ripley Valley is one of the largest urban growth areas in Australia and Ipswich City Council is investing in local road upgrades to keep the city moving during this next exciting growth phase.

Ipswich City Council Chief Executive Officer Sonia Cooper said an information page on the project has been recently launched on council’s Shape Your Ipswich website to keep residents informed as council approaches the construction stage.

“Stages 1, 2 and 3 of this project are currently confirmed for design and construction. Council is currently in negotiation with Economic Development Queensland on funding for the project and timelines will be determined as part of future Council budget discussions,” Ms Cooper said.

“The Ripley area is quite complex involving more than two dozen different landowners and developers operating simultaneously.

“This means infrastructure needs to be built to connect different locations as they come online which makes it very challenging to co-ordinate.

“The new information page has been set up to allow residents to have a point of truth to find out what is occurring.

“Residents in the Ripley Valley want to move forward and we are endeavouring to get this section of road upgraded as quickly as possible.”

Ripley Road is set to be upgraded to a four-lane median divided urban road. Upgrades will take place between the Cunningham Highway and Fischer Road (approximately 2.6km inclusive of all intersections).

The upgrade also includes Fischer Road from Nevis Road to Monterea Road. This road will become a two-lane urban road (approximately 750m inclusive of all intersections).

Council will manage the design and construction of the two connecting roads within the Ripley Valley in a staged approach:

  • Stage 1 – Ripley Road (between Cunningham Highway and Monterea Road)
  • Stage 2 – Ripley Road (between Monterea Road and Fischer Road)
  • Stage 3 – Fischer Road (between Nevis Road and Monterea Road)
  • Stage 4 – Ripley Road (between Fischer Road and Centenary Highway)

As further development occurs some additional works (for example intersection upgrades) will be required to provide access to new estates.
