Ipswich’s booming western suburbs will benefit from a major upgrade of Adelong Avenue in Thagoona, with Ipswich City Council selecting a preferred construction partner.
Division 4 Councillor David Martin said local civil contracting company Naric Civil has been chosen to deliver the $2.82 million upgrade.
“It has been a long road to this point but this ensures Adelong Avenue will be able to accommodate increased traffic resulting from population growth and be more resilient to severe weather events in the long term,” Cr Martin said.
“We have already undertaken significant work to improve the roadway, with construction previously of a large new culvert and major drainage upgrades to help address the flooding issues the road has had in the past.
“Now we will upgrade more than 12,000 square metres of road pavement, as well as roadside table drains and driveway crossovers.
“This work is expected to take five to six months, so the new Adelong Avenue should be ready to go by Christmas.
“I would like to thank the Adelong Avenue residents for their patience with this long awaited project, and trust they will be happy with the result.”
Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden said preliminary works for the upgrade, including vegetation clearing and relocation of utility services, have already begun.
“The residents of Division 4 have been calling for this upgrade for many years and I am pleased council is delivering it,” Cr Madden said.
“The western suburbs are among the fastest growing in Ipswich, with the State Government identifying the area encompassing Rosewood, Walloon and Thagoona as an urban growth corridor 20 years ago.
“We need to ensure roads in this area can cater for the increasing number of people who are calling these wonderful suburbs home.”
“The road will be rehabilitated using foamed bitumen stabilised material, which is an upgrade from the current pavement materials, giving the new road a minimum 20-year life.”
