Division 2 highlights: Roads, repairs and recreation in focus at 2025-26 budget

The Ipswich City Council 2025-2026 Budget features major investments in the local road network and resident recreation to keep up with unprecedented rates of growth across Division 2.

Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said roads, repairs and recreation were major focuses for division in this year’s budget.

“This year’s council budget has significant investments in road upgrades as well funding for maintenance of existing assets,” Cr Tully said.

“The budget includes $7 million to continue our city’s largest ever road upgrade, including stage 2 of Springfield Parkway to a standard four-lane urban road, extending from Topaz Road to Hymba Yumba Independent School in Springfield. This is part of a $42.3 million investment over three years.

“There is also $750,000 for upgrading Augusta Parkway and Sinnathamby Boulevard to a standard of a four-lane urban road from Eden Station Drive to Main Street including a bridge duplication at Springfield Central and Augustine Heights, which is part of $51.5 million over five years.

“Once completed, these improvements will ease traffic on these roads, making travel easier for present and future residents.”

Cr Tully said while it was important to fund these upgrades and improvements, it was also vital to put funds towards maintenance of the road network.

“The community expects council to do the basics well and that includes upkeep of existing community infrastructure to make sure they hold up well into the future,” Cr Tully said.

“That is why council has allocated $3.1 million towards sealed road rehabilitation at locations throughout the division including Goodna, Carole Park, Camira, Springfield Lakes and Augustine Heights.

“More than $200,000 will be spent updating traffic signals at the intersection of Eagle Street and Kruger Parade in Redbank and the intersection of Old Logan Road and Formation Street in Carole Park.”

Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said libraries, sports facilities and parks throughout the division would also see benefits in this year’s budgets as council delivered for a growing population.

“Division 2 has some of Ipswich’s highest growth rates - for instance, Spring Mountain was the fastest growing area in Ipswich in the January to March quarter,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.

“Council is committed to managing this growth responsibly, and that means focussing on core service delivery while also investing in future infrastructure and quality of life improvements for residents.

“That’s why council has allocated $407,000 for improvements at Springfield Central Library and to progress planning for a new Springfield Central Library.

“The budget also includes $400,000 for improvements to Grande Park at Springfield Lakes including replacing the park’s mountain slide.

“There is $310,000 in this budget for sports facility rehabilitation – this includes the renewal of lighting at Evan Marginson Park netball court at Goodna.

“Libraries and parks offer some great low-cost or free recreation options for residents, which is why council continues investing in these assets amid cost-of-living pressures.”

Deputy Mayor Jonic said in addition to funding for roads and recreation, there was investment in other important areas as well.

“Money has also been set aside to progress planning for improvements at the Goodna SES facility at Redbank Plains. They will receive $100,000 over two years, with design to happen this financial year and construction expected in 2026-2027,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.

“The budget also allocates $250,000 to improve stormwater drainage on Perdita Street, Katandra Cresent and Rosemary Street in Bellbird Park as part of $750,000 worth of works over two years.”

Division 2 2025-2026 Budget highlights:
