Green light for road safety and park improvements in Division 4

08 August 2025

Two new speed awareness signs and improvements to park facilities will be delivered for residents in Division 4 through Ipswich City Council’s Provisional Projects sub-program.

The Division 4 Provisional Projects received the go ahead at council’s Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday 30 July.

They include speed awareness signs to be installed at Arthur Summervilles Road, Karalee and Diamantina Boulevard, Brassall, as well as BMX jumps at Sarah Drive Park, Yamanto.

Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden said residents who use Sarah Drive Park had noticed a need for more activities suitable for teenagers.

“Young residents had tried to create their own small BMX jumps, so it is wonderful that council is able to listen to the community and deliver this project for them,” Cr Madden said.

“Provisional Projects have brought benefits to many residents in recent years. In the past, council has extended the footpath outside Rosewood State School and reconfigured fencing at the Cribb Park dog off-leash area in North Ipswich, from listening to community voices.

“I’m looking forward to seeing local teenagers and BMX riders enjoy these jumps once they are constructed.”

Division 4 Councillor David Martin said the two speed awareness signs will improve safety of our motorists.

“Residents have expressed concern about the travel speeds of some motorists on Arthur Summervilles Road at Karalee and Diamantina Boulevard at Brassall,” Cr Martin said.

“The signs will serve as an important reminder for motorists to reduce their speed if needed, contributing to a safer driving environment for all.

“Safety is always our top priority, and we are pleased that we’re able to help keep our residents safer in this small way through the installation of these signs.”

Infrastructure, Planning and Assets Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the three projects are expected to cost $20,000 each.

“Provisional Projects allow councillors to engage with their community and put forward projects that are not already in the Capital Works Program but would be beneficial,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“Division 4 Councillors Jim Madden and David Martin put forward these projects, which were gladly passed at the July Council Ordinary Meeting.”

The projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program.
