No time wasted as Riverview Resource Recovery Centre repairs completed ahead of schedule

14 August 2025

Essential repairs to the Riverview Resource Recovery Centre’s transfer pit have been completed two weeks ahead of schedule, ensuring the key facility remains in tip-top condition for years to come.

Ipswich City Council Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Jim Madden said the works were vital to extending the life of the transfer pit, which has served the community for nearly 40 years.

“Ipswich City Council engaged a structural engineer, as part of normal asset management processes, to undertake a detailed inspection of the transfer pit in April 2023,” Cr Madden said.

“This inspection identified repairs necessary to extend the life of the pit wall and ramp area of the transfer pit for the next 20 years.

“These important remediation works were completed over eight weeks, finishing two weeks earlier than planned which is great news for residents visiting the centre.”

Cr Madden said the transfer pit is now fully operational following the early completion of the works and thanked the community for its patience during the upgrade.

“Full access to the transfer pit has now been restored,” Cr Madden said.

“I would like to thank the community for their patience while the major works were underway at this essential community facility.

“Council remains committed to engaging the community to advance waste management, resource recovery and the circular economy, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable future for Ipswich.”
