A commemorative sign will be installed at Opossum Creek Parklands to acknowledge the Queen’s Jubilee Grant.
Ipswich City Council Infrastructure, Planning and Assets Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the Queen’s Jubilee Grant from the late Queen Elizabeth II funded the planting of 2,000 trees in Opossum Creek Parklands at Brookwater.
“The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was marked in June 2022 before her passing in September 2022, with trees being planted across Australia to mark the occasion,” Cr Antoniolli said.
“Springfield Lakes Nature Care were invited to submit an Expression of Interest for funding, and council was very happy to hear that they were successful in securing funding.
“The trees are thriving in their new home and the sign to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee is set to be placed near the site.”
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic thanked the Springfield Lakes Nature Care group for its contribution to the Opossum Creek Parklands and application to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee tree plantings.
“Springfield Lakes Nature Care have made a notable difference to the Opossum Creek Parklands, not only by planting trees but by holding Bushcare Come and Try Days every month,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.
“I highly encourage residents to head down there and help out with weeding and planting and learn more about the environment that surrounds us.
