Upgrades in pipeline for playgrounds at Goodna and Camira

It’s set to be a play packed future for children and families in Division 2 as two playground upgrades are now in the pipeline as part of Ipswich City Council’s Provisional Projects program.

Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the improvements would be made to Evan Marginson Park in Goodna and Langley Park in Camira.

“A mature fig tree will be planted over the playground at Evan Marginson Park in Goodna to provide shade to those using the area, while Langley Park in Camira will receive a number of upgrades including new plantings, better integrated play areas and improved soft-fall areas,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.

“There have been several requests from residents for shade over the playground at Evan Marginson Park in Goodna.

“We enquired about the cost of a shade sail and it would have cost around $80,000, while planting a mature fig tree provides a similar amount of shade for about $10,000.

“The cost efficiency and eco-friendly nature of this alternative made this decision a no-brainer, particularly since the fig tree is similar to the others already in the park.

“Langley Park in Camira is an older local park which has gotten really busy in recent times with lots of families moving into Camira.

“The $45,000 upgrade to Langley Park will integrate the two existing play areas into one by removing the concrete ramps between them.

“It will also include an improved soft-fall area around the play equipment to make it safer and more comfortable for kids and include new garden beds as well as landscaping as part of the beautification.

“I look forward to seeing families enjoying their new and improved park once works are completed.”

The projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program.
