Kids Water Safety and Learn to Swim Program

Ipswich City Council’s Kids Water Safety and Learn to Swim Program offers children aged 6 months to 5 years free water safety and swimming lessons.

This program has been designed for children to help them build water confidence and encourage them to be more comfortable in the water, learning lifesaving skills while having fun.

Bookings for the February - March program are now open; the program consists of one 30-minute lesson each week for six weeks at Leichhardt Swim Centre.

  • Babies Level 1 (6 months – 1 year) at 9.00 am and 9.30 am
  • Babies Level 2 (1 – 3 years) at 10.00 am and 10.30 am
  • Level 1 and 2 (3 – 5 years) at 11.00 am and 11.30 am

This program is a one-off introductory program primarily for Ipswich residents. Priority is given to children who have not yet participated in this program.

If your child has already participated in a Kids Water Safety and Learn to Swim Program at any time in the past, if there are no available session times suitable for your child or if you reside outside of the Ipswich local government area, you are welcome to join the program waitlist and we will contact you if a space becomes available.

  • This program is offered under Ipswich City Council’s Kids Water Safety and Learn to Swim Program.
  • Lessons are conducted by qualified Just Sports ‘n Fitness swim instructors in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Bookings are essential as numbers are capped per session.
  • The program consists of one 30-minute lesson, and attendance will be at the same time each week for six weeks, level breakdown below:
    • Babies Level 1 (6 months – 1 year)
    • Babies Level 2 (1–3 years)
    • Levels 1 and 2 (3–5 years)

Please note: Child minding services are not available during this program. Participants are responsible for the care and supervision of their children at all times.
