The conduct of Councillors and employees of Ipswich City Council is bound by standards that ensure they act in the best interests of the public and the communities they serve.
Council has resolved to implement the Code of Conduct for Councillors developed by the Queensland Department of Local Government. This should be seen as a public affirmation by the elected members to act in the best interests of the communities they serve. Its aim is to set a standard of ethical behaviour in public office and improve public confidence in elected officials.
The Code of Conduct is now mandatory across all Queensland local governments and can be viewed or downloaded from the Department’s website.
The Code of Conduct for Employees seeks to set standards which the public has a right to expect are the minimum standards which should apply to all employees of Council. Accordingly, Council recognises that not only must the actions of employees be above reproach, they must also be seen to be above reproach. Such a situation leads to public confidence in the system of local government.
