Trail Bikes and 4-Wheel Drives

Did you know it is illegal to operate a trail bike or 4-wheel drive in a park, easement, bushland reserve, conservation estate or any other public space?

Local laws - trail bike and 4-wheel drives

Trail biking and 4-wheel driving is prohibited on Council owned properties (including bushland reserves and conservation estates) under Ipswich City Council’s Local Laws No.7 (Local Government Controlled Areas and Roads) 2013. Council has installed and will continue to install bike barrier fencing and bollards designed to prevent access. Council officers actively target prohibited activities by undertaking regular patrols in known hotspots, as well as installing surveillance cameras to monitor illegal activities. Offenders run the risk of on-the-spot fines in excess of $600 for committing an offence under this local law.

Responsibilities of riders

Trail bike riders are responsible for ensuring they comply with the relevant laws. Where a rider is a minor, the responsibility rests with the parent or guardian.

Where is trail bike riding permitted?

Ipswich City Council is aware of your needs as a rider and acknowledges the growing demand for trail bike riding. Council, together with the South East Queensland Council of Mayors and State Government departments, is working to provide safe local trail bike riding facilities.

For trail bike riding in Ipswich, visit the dedicated motocross facility at Willowbank. Willowbank MX is a recreational ride park with a variety of tracks that cater to riders of all levels of ability. Check them out online, phone 0475 222 007 or email tracks@willowbank.com.au.
